This is rampant in all the service industries in the GCC. I never tip on a credit card purchase. I check where the pseudo manager/supervisor is in an eating establishment or wait until I'm nearly out the door to "shake" my server's hand.
As for the link - if everyone changes their petrol station from this one, perhaps management will rethink their position.
These guys not only are paid poorly but usually are paying for their visa (and other costs) for 2 - 3 years (indentured servitude = slavery). This is illegal for the employer or employment agent to collect - when was the last time either was brought up on charges? |

This is news only for people who haven't been here for donkey's years. Still, it's reassuring to hear that nothing has changed ..
I'm more surprised at the indignation of the people posting comments to the newspaper. Where on earth have these people been living ..
On a brighter note, even though they also pay peanuts, I believe ADNOC lets their guys keep their meagre tips .. but I could be wrong .. |
