"Take Five" was actually written by Paul Desmond (who plays the alto sax solo) and was first recorded by the full Brubeck Quartet. However, Brubeck continues to get most of the credit for it.
Try counting it as 3 + 2:

Yes, I know that, Henry, thanks. That's why I wrote 'hit', not composition. In the same way we'd write about a pop star's hits, even though he may not have written them - such as Elvis, who wrote not a line himself.
Thanks for the counting tip, though. I'll try it. Yet, somehow I keep counting out 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
