How many hours' work per month are we talking here to pull 2 grand in the cities? You'll be working your butt off at most places to get that kind of money.

I do not think $2,000 per month is standard in Hanoi and Saigon.

I know people making $2,000 per month, but most do not.

And importantly, are we talking gross or net? Almost everyone is now paying the P.I.T., the personal income tax.

It's that old rule: Pareto Principle

20/80. 20% of the teachers make most of the income.

The far majority of teachers I know earn less than $2,000. There are some who pull a lot of hours at 2-3 schools to hit $2,000.

Driving all over town through traffic. It's a 12 hour day, actually.

Standard was a poor word choice, I guess. I meant "average". Sure there's some places that pay as low as $1500 a month, but there's others that will pay up to $3,000 per month depending on qualifications.

Sure, any old Tom, Dick or Harry can slaughter their butt off and run around town and teach at multiple schools just to make 2 grand gross; so can someone in a mill working 100+ contact hours plus a load of unpaid admin (if those hours are actually on offer). However, how many can say they make $2000+ gross with a reasonable amount of contact hours, let's say 80-90/per month, and be legal as well in terms of having a WP and year visa? These jobs are few and far between. Most people I know are nowhere near pulling 2 G, and those that are, their life isn't much fun as they're always busy which kind of defeats the purpose of moving abroad. Furthermore, I'd hazard a guess that the one's working multiple jobs or doing privates aren't getting much or anything in terms of holiday pay or bonuses, but the tax-free income might offset that for some. Also, there's the trips to Cambodia for the old visa thingy to consider as well.

There are SOME good gigs here, but not many and they aren't that easy to get, even for the suitably qualified. I think there are people reading this thread from abroad and they should be getting realistic wages, not figures that are outliers like $3000 or even $2000 per month.

Also, unless you're on a salary, your income will fluctuate considerably from month to month.

You might make $2000 one month, then much less the following month and so on while you wait for new classes/jobs to start.
