I briefly lived in Shenzhen in 2009 and applied for a job at Wall Street. Even though I have a degree and had over 20 years total teaching experience at the time I was told they could not hire me without some sort of certificate like a TEFL. Even a cheesy online version would have sufficed. The guy interviewing me, a white guy from South Africa who I actually had worked with in another city, claimed it was a Shenzhen government requirement. I considered getting one but I was gone from Shenzhen a few weeks after the interview and never bothered. |
