You're going to have to make it, I haven't seen it anywhere, so starting last year, I started making it myself. The ingredients aren't too hard to find. The trickiest is vanilla. You can find vanilla and nutmeg at Namdaemun.

No kidding! Haven't thought of that. I briefly checked how to make it, but it looks like we are eating uncooked eggs... is that safe, like, with samonela around and such? Is there a way to kill any bacteria or samonela in the egg? Or is eating a raw egg typically safe?

Still, I'm lazy. Anyone else???!!! I'm like an addict here, craaaaving.. Shocked Shocked Shocked

If you can fry an egg you can make eggnog.

It's so easy and tastes better than store bought.

There are a 1001 recipes on the 'net.

Simply get a Korean write down the Korean words for vanilla and nutneg and pick them up on your next shopping trip. Eggs, milk.

that's the biggest problem i have with trying to learn how to make or cook something from the internet. with all of those options, how do i know which ones are best?

i tried to make eggnog my first year here from a recipe i found on the internet, and it was atrocious.
if you happen to have that easy and good recipe handy, i'm sure i'm not the only one who'd like to see it.

The recipe I have goes as follows

Mix 2 cups of milk with 1/3 cup of sugar and 4 beaten egg yolks. Cook this on low heat while stirring constantly. If it's too hot, it gets lumpy and nasty. Keep cooking until the mixture is thick enough to coat the spoon. That will be about 20 minutes (?)

Pour the mixture into a metal bowl. Put the metal bowl into an ice bath. After it has cooled down somewhat, mix into it 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 2-4 tablespoons of rum or burbon (or mix them together) and put it in the refrigerator. It needs to cool for at least 4 hours. While cooling, I like to sprinkle nutmeg on top.

The vanilla and alcohol can change depending on your preference.

Question Adjust the mixture and re-taste. This ain't rocket science.

Mix a cup of milk, a raw egg, a teaspoon of vanilla or tablespoon of honey then chill it and add a bit of nutmeg later. Tweak to taste.

One's inability to make decent eggnog is entirely psychological.

Add rum if you want the real thing. How much? Add some and sip. Add a bit more and sip again.

It's an art, easily learned.

This is the one I plan to make, Micro directions included

Safe Egg nog
6 large eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 liter milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

In large saucepan, beat together eggs, sugar and salt, if used.
Stir in 2 cups milk.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick enough to coat a metal spoon with a thin film and reaches at least 160F.
Remove from heat.
Stir in remaining 2 cups milk and vanilla.
Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, several hours or overnight.
Just before serving, pour into bowl or pitcher.
Garnish or add stir-ins, if desired.
Serve immediately.
For faster preparation, heat milk until very warm before stirring milk into eggs and sugar.
MICROWAVE: In 2-liter liquid micro-safe measure or bowl, beat together eggs, sugar and salt, if used, until thoroughly blended.
Set aside.
In l-liter liquid measure or bowl, cook 2 cups milk on full power until bubbles form at edges, about 5-6 minutes.
Stir into egg mixture.
Cook on 50% power until mixture is thick enough to coat a metal spoon with a thin film and reaches at least 160F, about 5-6 minutes.
Stir in remaining 2 cups milk and vanilla.
Continue as above.

Cool thanks. I will both the quarts and greedily drink them myself, plus the ingredients to make more... So am I right that 바닐라 means vanilla and 유두구 means nutmeg?

Some recipe sites have user reviewers. The one I use most is allrecipes.com. The people who have used the recipes rate them and many write reviews, saying what was good/bad or suggesting alternatives.

Don't forget making it extra special by buying a bottle of quality rum and adding a shot glass or 2. Wink
