Just a question, I am curious about some of your work schedules. I take it that some of you do a few hours in the morning, have some time off, then have to go back in the evenings. That must blow, knowing you have to return to work after you leave for a break. Do any of you work a regular 8 hour day? the 9-5 thing? What about weekends? I'm sure it's contract driven.
I know once I leave work, I don't want to come back!! |

I have one of those 8-5 teaching jobs. I prefer hanging out around the office when I'm not teaching to having a split shift. There are days when hanging out bites the big one, though. |

On Monday and Tuesday both I have a four hour break between classes. That's when I have my office hours and for the last few weeks I've been going downtown to meet my girlfriend and have lunch.
Yesterday I accepted a few more hours, so from today I have to wake up at the ungodly hour of 5 a.m., and it creates another four-hour split in my schedule on Thursdays. |

I teach 8 classes every day, from 9 to 7.
I tried telling my boss that it isn't worth the extra pay, but he wouldn't listen... |

I have an elusive high school job and have to be here from 8.30-4.30 Mon-Fri. It's great. I teach 24 hours over that period and hang out at my desk in between marking and playing on the computer. I worked at ECC a few years ago and did the 3 mornings a week kindy hell with 3-7.30 in the afternoons every day. We had just long enough to go to the gym between shifts tho so that was good. |

I have to be at work from 3:30 to 9:40 M-F. Right now I only have 4 classes on M,W,F and none on T,TH. I don't mind having to be at work though, since we have a nice (large, private and air-conditioned) office and I can plug my laptop into the network and geek out whenever I'm not in class.
The schedule will change to 3:30-10:30 once exam prep season is over, and it's 9:30 to 4:30 during public school vacations. Beats the hell out of my last job - a triple split. 6:30 - noon, 3-7, 8-10. Ugh! Now I work less and get paid more! Not a bad deal for 12-15 hours of classroom time a week. |

Contract calls for teaching between 9am and 4. But in my second month, and still only teaching 9am to 2:40. Pay is about the same as my school last year, too. Actually, I am preparing for class between 9 and 10am too. Lunch is between 12 and 1:20. |

9 to 4:30 at a middle school. Lunch is 75 minutes, I teach 16.5 real hours a week. I also have to teach a more private class after school, from 3:40 to 4:40, but I get a pretty nice bonus for doing that, so it's no biggie.
But middle school isn't easy, and I'm mentally exhausted at the end of the day. |

I teach from 7-11 Monday through Thursday evenings, and two hours on Friday evenings. I love my schedule. Prep time and grading are done at my discretion. |

Nice!
I've got 2.30-8.30.
Some people start work here at 5am.....?
That sounds horrible. |

I consider myself very lucky to have an 8-3 job. During those hours I'm scheduled for 3-4 classes. However, I teach executives at a company and they often cancel. So I end up having about 2 classes a day, sometimes none.
Actually, it's pretty boring. I spend about 5 hours a day sitting at my desk, staring at my computer screen. The time goes much faster when I'm teaching. |
