Esteemed Friends and Colleagues:

We've got a solid five days off in January!

Check your calendars and you'll see that it's true. FIVE SOLID DAYS!

Glory Hallelujah, thank God! Five days away from the kimchee zoo: what's one to do? what's one to do?

Unless, of course, you work for the sort of Kiddie Hogwan Hitler type who sees this as a plum chance to work you OVERTIME, and on national holidays. (Ah yes, you proud employees of Yunhee Kid's College: I know what YOU'LL be doing while the rest of us are away. Jeepers, what a hell hole!)

I'm about to say, "One night in Bangkok, baby, and the world's your oyster."

But tarnation and gourd blime us, that's what I've been saying for the past two years now!

Surely this great world of ours has more to offer than Nana Plaza.

Your recommendations?

Plan now folks!

I'm eyeing Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh as alternatives to the Bangkok rut.

What about you?

I'm thinking of spending the 5 days in Fukuoka. Take the Saemaul train (1st class) from Seoul to Busan, then hop the Beetle to Fukuoka. Hang out and see the sights for a few days, then head back. I've been to Tokyo before, so, while I want to go to Japan again, I don't want to see "more of the same." I'd also like to check out Nagasaki and some other stuff on Kyushu.

I get decent breaks at my school. We get one week sometime in December and a week again in August. My contract's up (if I don't renew) at the end of August, so I can't see using that one to go anywhere. I've not yet decided if I'm going anywhere in December, since it'd mean two trips (and double the cash spent) in less than a month.

Sheer genius, Walter Mitty, sheer genius!

I mean it, too.

Fukuoka is a WONDERFUL city.

I've been there just once before, on a too-short visa run the year before last.

Thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Honestly.

Fukuoka is almost TOO perfect.

It's out of this world!

You know, I'll probably do the same as you, now that I think of it.

Five days and nights in Fukuoka--pricy but oh boy what a treat that would be!

You know, Walter Mitty, I'm suddenly inspired to live again.

FUKUOKA OR BUST!

Oh YEAH, baby!

It's not pricey at all, just get the package deal from Kangsan Travel.

Round trip on the Beetle from Busan to Fukuoka and 4 nights hotel for 350,000 Won. That's the deal I'm taking.

Ach... and there was I thinking you meant the 5 week-days Wink

I believe Chuseok falls on a Tueday in 2004, so we should get the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off, which is another "5 solid days" off Very Happy

I think I have a month off in January. Won't know when that month falls until later.

But I probably won't do much. If I do travel, it'll be to the Phillipines and/or Vietnam.

It's great that there will be a 5 day break in January.
I work at a university and finals week is December 8-12. The following week we input the grades and don't have to be back till March 2 Very Happy
I'll be going to Mallorca to visit my sister, and then Miami to visit the rest of the family.

That will be less than 2 weeks till the end of my contract. I figure I'm going to have a proper holiday rather than blow a whole lot of won on a few days when I can have a few weeks instead.

That's my time for my free flight back to the states.
I'm taking the free flight to Puerto Rico and then going on to Belize for a week, then over to Caracas for a few days and then up to New York to see mom and then back to Seoul.
