Taxi fares for the Seoul area and other big cities will be raised yearly by 15-20 percent starting this coming July.

These taxi guys make a pretty hard living. theeir profit margin is pretty narrow. I think a pay rise every year is quite adequate. i don't think the 15% will come into effect however, nut I'm sure a couple hundred won won't hurt.
They are so cheap now and you know it. Give these road warriors some slack.
Imagine a 15% increase anyway. There will ajummas and adjoshis everywhere protesting.

Have you ever asked a taxi driver what they make in a month? If they do a 60+ hour week with no holidays, they might make two million a month. But usually not.

On one hand, it's sad to think that my average taxi ride is going to cost me another 50 cents, but it's hard to complain when it's still far cheaper than any first world country I've been too. That, and we get a pretty good sized paycheque in this country so we shouldn't be complaining over such a minor increase anyway.

I agree with Gord, I don't begrudge them thier increase. But I'll probably start making more of an effort to subway everywhere. I guess that's petty, but I figure I'm here for a lot longer yet, so habits are gonna add up.

Don't begrudge the taxi drivers. Any idea of how many drunken jackasses that are problems they have to deal with-let alone the military dudes?
