You are all wrong.
The big sky thing has to do with an area, with no mountains. You can see from horizon to horizon. Korea has nothing like it.

Certainly a lack of mountains can cause a perception of big sky, and of course we are talking about perception here. But there are no mountains in Florida, in fact I thnk that the highest hill is about 500 Ft., and the Santa Fe New Mexico area is in the mountains. Santa Fe has big sky, and Florida does not. Florida has beautiful skies, but they do not seem as vast as the ones in New Mexico.
So as the air dries out and the skies are clear, they will seem relatively bigger than they did in humid cloudy weather. |

thats because Florida has trees, etc while New Mexico (some it at least) has open space, w/out many trees. Same with Montana, especially the eastern 2/3s- hence its knickname. So big sky=wide open, empty spaces, something Korea doesn't have of course. |

I've been through montana, and the parts they are talking about is flat as hell with wheat fields from horizon to horizon, so in that sense montana has a really big sky.
now, this other part i am talking about is the korean persception of a big sky and how that contradicts the western persception, and how that difference might cause misunderstanding and petty comments about how korea does not have a "big sky" to come out like in this little jewel of a thread. |
