English teabags, e.g. Tetleys, are too weak.

Reminds me of those awful occasions when someone who thinks they are posh serves Earl Gray. Basically no more than colored water.

Irish and Scottish teabags are the real deal for us working-class types who need something you could stand the spoon up in.

My father's tea is awesome. 5 bags in the pot and brewed on the stove for at least an hour!!!!! No one can drink it but him.

Ditto for me, the first five hurt enough.

Following this side line, only slightly related to things Brittish, I went to one of the first colleges built in NZ, very much modelled on the Englsih public school, rugby, cricket, cadets, bording house, all boys of course. I wonder if any Brits have had a similar experience. There was a master who used to cane quite a lot, and when you went into his room he would stand you in postion, then verbally tear strips off you while he slowly packed his pipe, then take a nice big draw, set the pipe down on the desk beside you, and give you a good one, then take another big draw and rail at you some more, telling you all about why you were a worm etc, then give you another. Getting six of the best took about half an hour. Anyone got any tales of similar sadism to share. Personally I think that goes beyond discipline, which I don't have a problem with, I think the bugger was totally getting off on it.

I'd be interested to know if anyone knows how many British style pubs are there in Korea?

I know of one beside lake Bomun in Kyongju. I went there last time I was at the lake, after all it was advertising British beer and fish and chips (do any other Brits really miss fish and chips or is it just me?). However the actual menu was nothing like the advertisment and I had to settle for Kimchi Fried Rice and a bottle of (what british pub does not serve draft) Hite.

Well if thats what Koreans think a typical British pub is like let them. I wonder what the reaction would be like if pubs back home started selling Kimch???

That may look like a smile, but the Gaffer's crying on the inside after a comment like that.

Im with the gaffer on this one.

Tetley's & PG are both decent brews, as long as they're made in the correct way.

Mummy just sent me 160 Tetley's teabags to cure my hatred of Lipton/Twinings, so the gaffer can have a wee smile on me. Wink
