I saw lovely big stalks of fresh asparagus in Hannam Market. There were several packets there...I forget the price though - I was still reeling from paying 70,000 won for a turkey.

Why did you buy a turkey for 70 000.

Best places to get fresh fruit:

Department Stores (Lotte, Hyundai Samsung Plaza) - expensive but they usually have awesome selection. I was able to score Cherries there the day my wife had our kid.

Costco - always changes, but when they got em, they got em in cheap prices, heavy stock.

Walmart has some good stuff ocassionally too.

Carrefour has surprised me a few times.

If you got a buddy who can get you stuff from Yongsan or some other base, they got the best stuff, cause uncle sam flies it in daily.

The above can also be said for finding cheese too Smile

I'm not US soldier, nor do I know any personally, so I can't shop on the base.

I don't own a COSTCO membership (nor do I want to - that place would put a severe dent in my paycheck if I visited on a regular basis)

It was a 20 lb. turkey, so it was of substantial size. (I'm having 12 people, mostly American, over for an American thanksgiving meal - even though I'm Canadian and know that the true and proper thanksgiving occurs the second week of October Wink )

Finally, yes, I am aware that there are cheaper turkeys to be had. (Especially those flown over from the US, subsidized by US taxpayers). I just wanted to support a small businessman who stocks a lot of products that appeal to the foreign community. Also, he is being kind enough to hold it for me for a couple of weeks, as I have an oven, but not a freezer. I can just imagine trying to have that conversation with the manager of the COSTCO.

So yeah, it was a lot of money, but I had my reasons, logical or not.

Where do you think those markets get the Turkey's my ignorant brotha?

The adjuma network that buys them up on base for 20bux, sells them to some Korean guy for 40bux, and he sells it to you for 70,000 won.

Costco won't break the bank either. I never go nuts there, as most stuff I can buy locally, so I just buy the stuff I can't get near my house.
