Viet Nam is da bomb!
Wicked people, but the urchins of HCMC were annoying as.
Here is my list from another travel site I use.
My total list of countries is over 30, so here is a fraction.
1. Japan
2. Ireland
3. Thailand
4. Viet Nam
5. Yugoslavia
6. Bosnia
7. Georgia
8. Belgium
9. Britain
10. Romania
11. Azerbaijan
12. Turkey
13. Morocco
14. Portugal
15. Slovakia
If I visited Korea for two weeks, it would be up there. But its hard to judge a place where you live and know so much (especially this instance!) about in the same light. For the record, if any Korean asks me, I say its the best. Much easier that way!

Papua New Guinea.
Sadly, the place is facing terrible problems - like much of the developing world, but for a cultural experience there is nothing like it on earth. I lived there 10 years (before coming to korea about 18 months ago) and I still think of it as home. |

Of course USA&Canada goes at the bottom, because I'd be there if I didn't like traveling and being abroad so much more!
Yes I really do think South Korea is my 2nd favorite place in the world. Of course right next to Brazil which nothing can compare. Vietnam is my #3. |
I wrote this list way back in March of last year.. about one month before this 'return' to Korea. Obvious I was a little nostalgic for Korea.
I need to modify it..
I'd put Korea AND China in the middle now. Thailand and Japan would be higher..
Top 3 would be: Brazil, Vietnam, Philippines or something like that..
Behind that might be Japan and Thailand above Ecuador and Peru.. in short.. I'd have to revamp the list entirely.. |

The best or most astounding place i have ever been to is Gallipolli. Basically the Australians fought the Turks in WW1 for a small peninsula to control the shipping into the black sea. There were many stuffups mostly on the British behalf but basically the Australians had to make a run for it up a hill anf the Turks were waiting there to pick them off. When you stand on the top of the mountain and see it was only about 5 kilometres of land they were fighting for but the Aussies never made it in 18 months of fighting. its incredible. Any australian or new zealander(or Turk) should check it out.

I like the look and feel of Europe generally. Amsterdam was the most beautiful city.
Bajans were the happiest people. (Barbados if you don't know)
Rockley Beach was my favorite public beach.(Barbados)
Germany had the best beer.
Paris along the Seine across from the Louvre was my favorite experience sitting at an outdoor cafe and generally wandering around.
My train trip through the alps from Zurich to Interlaken was the most scenic experience. |

I'd like to go there. I read a book about that campaign by Alan Moorehead. It certainly didn't paint the British Generals in the best light. The Pogues song Waltzing Mathilda I think was the first time I remember hearing about that but I'm not Aussie or Kiwi. We Canadians hear about Normandy and Flanders growing up instead. |
