I hope my coworker doesn't mind me posting the link to his angry letter to the Herald, but this needs to be highlighted.

Cranking the yaba pipe again, or has the you-know-what-related dementia from doing one too many ladyboys up the Gary struck again?

The "Sparkling" comment gave me a chuckle.

My diploma is in Latin. When I was hired at my uni, there was a lot of headscratching. The bloody thing may as well have been in Swahili. They eventually got the idea though.

Not at all, but I have always had a dislike for English language newspapers out here. Cynicism from reading far too many Bangkok Post letter pages.

I do appreciate your friends problem. As my rather short comment was meant to show that the only people who will care about his plight are other English teachers.

Obviously having studied at an old Poly I will never have to worry about my degree being written in Latin.

Well, with appologies for my similarly curt retort, I would respond that at least the Herald is now attempting to address the issues that affect us here. Agree with you on your BKK Post observations, that, as are many other SE Asian rags, is a pile of cack.

Are the people staffing the education office so unworldly that a degree from an English speaking country written in Latin confuses them?

Actually, yes.

Why didn't the OP just ask his school for a dip in English?

The diploma has an English translation. This didn't stop the Education Office from deciding that the Latin 'Universitas' was a spelling mistake and therefore concluding that my degree was 'suspicious'

Well, update as in he got his angry letter to the editor published. If that is not an advancement in the saga, sue me. I'll allow the person in question who sometimes posts here to let you know the outcome.

I'd have left off the last sentence and third paragraph...they don't sound very professional.

And I doubt that calling the government names is going to have them seeing his POV anytime soon.
