I haven't had a mosquito in my apartment all year and I'm on the first floor. There's lots of water here too (Yongin). Right, I'm even in the country. And then I had them in my yeogwon in Itaewon last weekend?

The weather hasn't been cold enough yet to kill them off. There was a slightly cold couple of days, which killed a lot. however many of them simply "hibernate in warm places like houses, drains or roofs. When it warms up they come out again. In addition, theres a new generation in the larval stage in the water. Any warm weather and they'll hatch out all over again.
I reckon they should mostly be gone by the end of this month.

Saw one buzzing around the living room yesterday evening. Stupid bugger. I do not want to get bit again.

Yeah, all summer I had no mosquitos. Then in the last 2 nights I've been bitten about 5 times. I thought they were meant to die but then i thought I suppose it is much warmer here than outside so they came for the warmth. One more cold spell should kill them off well.

Said the same thing to my girlfriend the other day.

All of a sudden they came back - They're seasonal. Come back at the same time every year.

It's 30c above in Taipei - HOT and the Mozzies love it, I guess.

More to the point, how the flippin heck do they get into my apartment?

I've got screens on every window and I've checked 'em well. Nice and sound. And I can't say that I've ever noticed a big swarm follow me through the door. I don't have any obvious ventilation ducts.
And they're big buggers as well. Not your little tiny sissy mozzie. These critters are the swartcheneggers (don't think thats the right spelling) of the buzzing world.......
So how do they get in?

I have one possible theory. The only unscreened opening may be via the water inlets. The kitchen and toilet taps. Could they be breeding in the water resouivour on top of the building and the larvae getting into the water pipes? Getting past the tap spigots could be interesting.....

Maybe while still in egg form they flow into the drain pipes (under the sink) and from there develop.

3 problems with this theory.
One: I thought the water would be too heavily treated for the larvae to survive.
Two: I havebn't noticed any larval forms in the tap water.
Three: The time lag from resourivour to my tap would exceed (I'm purely guessing here) the larval life of the mozzie.

But I can't honestly think of any other solution. Have they somehow gotten their little hands (legs?) on a spare key? They're dam well big enough to carry one......

Do korean mozzies carry any pathogens such as maleria or similar to Ross river?
Is Japanese encephalitis spread by mozzie bites?

Ok, last week I was bit twice on my arm, and a few days ago I was bit on my fucking face while I slept! My face! Now it's personal. I spray a little mosquito repellent on myself before I go to bed now. So I smell a little funky but that's just tough shit for my girlfriend.
