It seems that more than a few of us who hang out here are no longer in Korea and also no longer teaching.

This board reminds me of my time in Korea, many times reminding me why I don't just pack it all up and go back. Although knowing that I can go and support myself and the little lady teaching ESL allows me not to worry about my current employment too much. Want to lay me off ? Fine, I'll be spending your severance check on Koh Chang and then head over to the kill zone to make a few $$$ and eat some dak kalbi. The board helps me stay in touch with what is going on with the job market too (I remember when standard hogwan was paying 1.2 and almost all had shared housing). I also pick up information that helps me understand the (sometimes) crazy korean chick running around my house. Anyways, I'm rambling.

Who, on this board, is no longer in Korea and would you or would you not ever consider returning to Korea ?

I've been trying to find a board about Korea for almost my entire time here. Now I've found one, and I'm trying desperately to shake off some time, but it's not working. This place is just high-turnover...but very, very informative.

And although a lot of silly debates go on here, you can easily see both sides of the coin, and judge for yourself what is right and wrong.

I get the feeling guys like you and I are the rarity - most people on the board are in Korea as we speak.

I'm here for a lot of the same reasons you are, and it sounds like we might have been in country at the same time (I was '96-'01).

It takes a special kind of freak to pack up and take a job they have no experience for in a country they don't speak the language in. And I like those kinds of people - this board ia a good place hang out with the type.

I'm a web designer now - I've thought about going back to K to teach for the fun of it, and I might do a winter camp someday. I was also in the process of making a K-centric message board, as I, too, have been looking for a web-hang. This site's board is now much improved, so I might ditch my project and post here - I'm not sure if i could get the visitors this site does.

On the other hand, the turnover is so high here that its hard for people to communicate - most of them are just posting without communcating, really. But by and large the conversations are as I remember them to be in Korea - for good or ill.

I'm also in the same boat. I like my work and sitting in front of a computer in my own office much more than I ever did teaching conversation. My problem is that I love travel (Working in Korea was great for that) and my current situation does not allow for much of that.
