*shrug*
I know the year I was born Miles Davis plugged in and began to go techno like ... Lenny Breau came out with his first live album ... and #1 on the Jazz Billboard for that year was the Best of Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
That was 1969. |

^78rpm I suspect. Probably smash to pieces if you dropped it.
I'm intrigued. We probably wouldn't have a hope in hell of finding a copy online to listen to. |

Love Theme from "A Star is Born" - Barbara Streisand
That's unfortunate. Interestingly (or not) enough her son's name is the same as mine. |

It was the first site I came across and didn't bother looking for one that did a month-by-month breakdown. Had "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" been #1, I'm sure I would have kept looking.
Here's a link to Vaughn Monroe's: http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsfw9CEQITA&feature=related
It's no way near as good as Johnny Cash's version: http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=lxn48wSiCzg&feature=related
But the version I'm most familiar with is Frankie Laine's: http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwAPa0qHmLo&feature=related
Robert Mitchum did a good cover, but I can't find it. |

Yeah, that sounds like the version I'm more familiar with.
Know what you mean about 'coconuts'. Think I'd have moved my birthday forward/back a month myself.
This sounds interesting:
Saturday Night Fish Fry - Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five
Any idea what a 'Tympany' is? |

When Doves Cry, by Prince. Incidentally, I love that song. |
I actually wore out two tapes playing that over and over in the eighties (true story). It was an incredible sensation then and while it's hailed for having no bass line and all facets performed entirely by one artist, it's actually got killer lyrics:
Quote: |
Dig if you will the picture
Of you and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me
Can you my darling
Can you picture this?
Dream if you can a courtyard
An ocean of violets in bloom
Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and you
How can you just leave me standing?
Alone in a world thats so cold? (so cold)
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father too bold
Maybe youre just like my mother
Shes never satisfied (shes never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry
Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
Youve got the butterflies all tied up
Dont make me chase you
Even doves have pride |
It'll be played a hundred years from now. Classic. By a true artist.
You know you wanna listen/move to it again:
