I had posted this same topic on the old board but here it is again.

I am coming back to Korea. Did not learn my lesson the first time.

Well since In am coming back and I can not fit everything into my bags since of weight. So I am planning to send stuff to Korea ahead of me. And in the future get stuff sent to me. I am wondering has anybody had any experience with packages.

Customs and Customs Duties?

Personal items.

What about food - mainly packaged?

Any experience with big online retailers like amazon.com?

What about censorship? I may order a few books that are not normally found in Korea. Heck I will be honest - maybe some porn.

So if any stories to tell. I would like to hear.

This applies only to the US, Cannucks please chime in.

Did the same thing last year as you. A very good idea given the way airlines are now pilferring through luggage in the "name" of security have of some stories of stuff disappearing from checked luggage. There is a package size limit think its 70" combined lxwxh. We had boxes that were too big and had to repack. Weight? I don't think there is a limit

Customs: declare everything "used", take off all pricetags etc, put a low dollar value on it, should be no problemo

Packaged foods: again no problem just don't send vitamins, customs have been nasty recently on those

Send things ground, cheaper though it takes about 8 weeks until it gets here

amazon.com; No problems with books or cds standard international shipping takes about 2 weeks for them. DVD's I've ordered has been somewhat of a problem, my computer has a DVD player set up for region 1(US and Canada) amazon thinks since they are coming to Korea they need to be in Region 3. Also some problems with shipping electronics or software, they seem not to be able to send those here.

last thing if you intend to order clothes online have them sent to address in NA, then have somebody re-ship them. Everytime we ordered something from Lands End etc and shipped here Korean Customs have hit it witha huge duty

Items coming into Korea take ages about 1/2 months i think that they sit on them somewhere, before they decide that they'd better send it to its owner!

i received my laptop via DHL with no problems...took 4 days to get here...immigration called and i had to send them a letter explaining why (no kidding) i was receiving the computer (i said it was personal comp. from home). they hit me with a 10% duty, BUT, my old man had the forsight to write the value of my computer at $500 on the customs form. they also charged duty on some photos which were included in the same box...the duty on the photos was 18%!!!!!!!! go figure!!

Make sure if you condense anything to include the labels. My friend had a hassle when her mom sent her diet shakes in zip lock bags until they found one she did put the label with. Can't blame them. They check the box and it has bags of "powder" in it. LOL

So if I am planning on shipping myself my favourite stuffs from home (like a random assortment of goodies) what would I mark it as would I just boldly print "USED" on it or would I have to compile a list of everything thats inside?... It's pretty much just going to be some of the snacky items I just can't live without, books, hair products (because apparently I'm OCD when it comes to using Aussie products lol) and some goodies for the kids I've been picking up. I really have no urge to pay taxes on this stuff and would appreciate any help Smile

Keep the declared total value of the contents under $120 and you will be fine.

Is it possible to have my apartment address before I leave the US so I can send stuff to Korea? My mother is saying to ship everything to the Post Office and pick it up there, but is that best? I know stuff will have to go through customs, and I figure I will probably be in Korea before it clears? Could someone please help me?

Hello all. I did a search and this was the closest topic I could find. I am a fairly tech heavy guy and I would like to bring the following electronics with me:

Mac Mini
Playstation 3
Dell laptop
2 24" Monitors

Will customs give me a hard time if I try to bring all that stuff with me? I don't know if I could possibly even fit it all in my luggage (or if I would want to). If I do pack it all, will I bet hit with some ridiculous customs duty? Would it be better to ship some of the stuff after I arrive? I really would like to bring all the stuff with me, or to have it arrive shortly after I do. Advice such as "buy it when you get over to Korea" isn't very helpful, either. The monitors are very nice and won't be cheap to buy in Korea. Thanks for helping!

Original (brand name) sealed package = they will be fine as long as the drug dog doesn't catch anything funny with it.
