Wonju is a an unremarkable Korean city. The best thing it has going for it is that it's only an hour and a half from both Seoul and the East coast. Skiing is less than an hour. The city itself is pretty bleak. Sorry I can't give it a better review.

erm,
i like wonju. it's smaller, and true, not so remarkable. but everytime i go to seoul, i come back home with black snot.
wonju gets snow, which is nicer than dead brown everything.
wonju has several places to get a decent latte.
there's a national park nearby, and if you get a car or motorcycle (decent ones are available for under a million won) there are all sorts of hidden gems like antiques shopping, a real bakery (as in, real whole wheat bread), temples and waterfalls and 1000 year old buddha carvings.

not recommended for those who love to party or shop.
