This isn't a Korea is bad waaa waaa cry cry post. But we all know that courtesy is something lost on the Korean streets. Even my wife does it. Long story short, I am always courteous when I should be. Ie people exiting have right of way and so on. But if they are in the wrong I won't try and squeeze past them I will just continue walking straight through them.

Now the goal of this discussion is techniques to maximise success. I find having your hands in your pockets is good for the shoulder hits as it provides great stability.

Also being aware helps alot. You can pre-stiffen your muscles.

Anybody else have any good tips for this? I actually think it is kind of fun now. They always get pissed off when they get knocked out of the way but they never do anything about it. As far as I am concerned they are learning to be courteous the hard way.

I've learned that the best thing to do is just stop dead in my tracks and give a glance of disaproval to the person as they are forced to manuever around me. It totally takes away any sense of power/entitlement they may think they have.

The stop and stare is gold!

I've taken to pretending to scratch my head. The elbow comes into prime smashing position. Also I will just bring my elbow up, for no apparent reason, if the other person is being particularly ajeossi-ish.

I couldn't live out of the city. I did before and I didn't like it. I think Seoul is pretty good. But I find the country towns to be pretty bad. Alot seem very dirty and well boring.

Plus I like street jousting. It's fun Smile

I just imagine I'm Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi and chasing through a forest at high speed, avoiding the trees as they get into my way. Or if you prefer the better sequel, I'm Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back navigating the asteroid field at breakneck speed.

Yes, they got me once in 2008 but never again! i am untouchable now.

Also like the trees and the asteroids, they don't mean anything by it and are not after you. And by bumping into them you lose part of your own momentum which means that you'll get to your destination later than you could have.
