I've been here for 4 months and will approach the boss about a raise in a month or so, maybe sooner if the dollar continues to slide because of the markets and war. My school likes me, I like them and I've been putting in a couple hours a week overtime each week. The main reason I would ask is because of the weakening of the dollar and the fact that it may speed up the process of the school looking for a new teacher which we need.

Anybody have any input on the etiquette of when a new teacher should first go asking for more money.

Any help is appreciated.

TIA! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

get your resume ready first. It's possible but highly unlike that you will get a raise. Maybe a senior teacher, but a new teacher with less than half a contract under his belt. Good luck

Also, I wouldn't say that it's a good idea to base your pay here off of another country's money. The monthly wage for a worker here in Korea is still good, and that's what really matters in the short term.

Long term, well, you need to have a larger sum of money to really worry about that.

I just got a 200000 Won per month raise after working in my hagwon for 5 months. I gave them my resignation and told them about the falling currency and better offers. I think a lot of directors are having trouble finding teachers and don't want the hassle. It's worth a try, just be ready to take off and find a new job when you ask.
