(Disclaimer: Okay, before everyone gets all hostile about my posting a topic that has probably been posted innumerable times before >>WHEN I DO A SEARCH I CAN'T SEEM TO ACCESS ANYTHING BEYOND THE FIRST PAGE OF RESULTS, WHICH ARE GENERALLY PRETTY USELESS TO ME!! In other words, the search function isn't working properly for me so I need to just flat out ask this question. So back off! Please.)
My sister is coming to visit and I don't drive so I wanted to rent a car for her to drive us around in. How can she get her international driver's license?
I've tried the Canadian Ministry of Transportation website and the Lonely Planet website with no luck. |

First of all she has to get it in Canada. You can��t get an international drivers licence once you arrive in a different country. Surprisingly, international drivers licences are not issued by the government body responsible for issuing normal drivers licences. They are usually issued by the automobile association in each country.
In Canada this association is CAA.

It's something she can use, but you - as a registered resident of Korea - can't.
The CAA IDPs aren't very expensive, and they essentially piggyback on her Canadian license, rather than act as a separate license. |

(And I did use an internet search engine, and all I got was pages of web-based companies willing to sell IDLs, which seemed sketchy to me!) |

Go to your national motoring authority. i'm not sure what it is in Canada but in Australia it is the NRMA.
They will put her on the right track and there is a good chance they sell it themselves. |

| Mine cost $24 I think. Tell her to take a picture with her since the CAA charges some ridiculous price to do it there. |

Quite sure. This has been the case for at least the last two years. There are likely several threads in the archives about this, but I'm too lazy to look them up, and dinner's ready.  |

Just as an update to anyone looking into this...the link Lemon put up years ago is no longer active and the price has changed (surprisingly, it went down!)
It is now $15 and all the info is here:

It's also valid for a year, which is rather neat. I'm definitely getting one ASAP. |
