|

Sorry for yet another laptop topic (YALT). I'm doing my own research but now I need to speed things up, and my current notebook has a broken screen, so my browsing experience is limited.
I've just changed jobs and I have a 2 million Won limit for a new portable computer. As I said, my own old Sony Vaio has a broken screen so I will use the new one both for work and for play (work is more important though and I have both PS3 and Xbox at home, that means I don't need an Alienware rig).
What I'm looking for are leads to brands and models that meet or get close to this framework:
- resolution: as close to full HD as possible, I need a lot of screen space and 1280 by 800 doesn't cut it anymore. At the same time, keeping the screen size small
- weight: definitely less than 3 kilos and lighter is better, of course
- CPU, RAM and GPU: i5 or i7 I guess, at least 4 GB RAM for a better x64 experience, and it must be either Nvidia or ATI GPU (not Intel) with 512-1024 GB dedicated RAM
- Battery life: two hours when in full performance mode (not running games) would be nice, for coffeeshop browsing and working
- Misc: non-glare screen would be great, a windows machine of course, 2 or more USB ports, an HDMI port would be loverly, and whatever I forgot but you think is essential. Solid State Disk?
Even a link to a comprehensive comparison web site would help. I should be able to put the purchase order next week.
Thanks in advance! |

I've had two vaio in the past and wasn't unhappy. I'll follow up on that but recently their designers seem to have discovered neon plastic, shudder. I'm looking at some dell varieties now since they're available in korea, and still can't resist the alienware lineup. Any good or bad experiences with these? On sunday I'll look around technomart or yongsan, but I want to come prepared. |

If you have kin in North America, just check dealnews.com or techbargains.com- usually tax free quad-core sandy bridge w/ 8GB ram and 750GB hard drive are under $800 USD. Just have your family mark it as "used" and you can get it no problem (have them open the box). Not sure of the specs, but saw a Lenovo Intel quad core on dealnews for $599- so figure $700 after shipping from the U.S.
If you watch the sales, you can get a decent computer IF you have people in the U.S. that will help you. |

far and away the best bang for your buck. Under two grand for a top of the line notebook. It blows Alienware out of the water on specs and price. I have owned one for a little more than a year now and it truly is an amazing machine. |
