"Korean Groups Declare War on Internet Pornography"
http://www.koreabang.com/2012/stories/korean-groups-declare-war-on-internet-pornography.html
Quote:
Recently, a coalition of civic groups have taken it upon themselves to individually monitor the Internet for porn sites and have now entered into an alliance with the government. If these groups get their way, you may lose your internet or phone service if they catch you looking at porn on them

Some translated netizen comments:
김성욱 wrote:

Well, if you want to do something about [porn], you could start by taking a look at the ads on this [Nate] page, like: Do you want to learn a secret method that will drive your husband in his 40s to become sexually excited in just 5 minutes??

I don't know about Nate specifically, but some of the banner ads on the Korea Times website are very graphic.

홍상우 wrote:

This is going to set us back as a country. Has no one thought that if sexual education is not taught properly in school, the amount of sexual assaults will go up? If you want to block porn, block porn after properly teaching teens sex ed!

Based on what the Koreans I've asked about their sex ed experience(s) told me, good point.

정원진 wrote:

[Quoting the government official in the article] We appeal to all citizens to join us in this movement to wipe the Internet clean of pornographyjeezI hate people like this.

I do too!

Korea, like all nations, ought to work to lessen the ease with which young men find porn. Men should be taught and encouraged towards discipline and self control. A generation of men sitting in their darkened houses alternating between gaming and fapping is the death of a civilization. Not that I object to my own civilization being put out of her misery, but I can't find enough ill-will in my heart to wish it upon the Koreans too.

And Koreans in their late 20s love the previous Roh Mu Hyeon administration that had lax interent policies towards online pornography. You can occasionally see comments like these on Daum Agora.

This is an organized online censorship directly administered by the current government. I think that makes it more of a problem.

I wonder if any of the members are women? maybe I can volunteer to assist them in their efforts... especially in the interracial white-asian genre....

Numerous wars have been fought and millions of people have died..over thousands of years... so that we could get a shot at the hi score.

The dirty little secret and inconvenient truth (at least in the West) is that as porn has become readily accessible, rapes and sexual assaults have plummeted.

And as the number of pirates in the world has decreased, the average temperature of the world has steadily increased.

I think your suggestion presupposes that rape is about sexual gratification. It's not. It's about control - a crime of violence.

I'd ask you to cite your source.

I don't intend to weigh in on either side of this debate, but it's not as if his claims are completely unorthodox: http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/everyday_economics/2006/10/how_the_web_prevents_rape.html.

No debate. Granted, I'm sure it's not so black-and-white as I present it.

I realize that correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation, but I think this phenomenon is worth exploring despite it not being PC.

This is one of the biggest lies that feminists would have people believe. Rape is overwhelmingly a crime of opportunity and horniness.

The Demise of TED

Quote:
Tonight, I want to talk to you about a national crisis. A global crisis. A crisis of such tremendous proportions that you may not even be aware that it is engulfing you and your loved ones and your neighbors in flames.

What is this crisis? It is a crisis of our brains. The brains of our fellow citizens are being digitally rewired. How? Here is how. Hundreds of millions of people are gazing at online videos, spending billions of aggregate hours slack-jawed in front of their monitors. These videos are sucking up all the time that these people would otherwise spend reading the great books that you and I grew up with. Remember those days back in the Reagan administration when we little tykes would page through Cicero and Racine? No more. Instead, we face an epidemic of short-term distraction. These videos last no more than 18 minutes, and often less. As soon as one video is over, we can choose from hundreds of others with the click of a mouse. Each one is different from the last, flooding our brains with an unnatural wealth of variety. Very soon, we even become addicted to that variety. Yes, that's right, addicted. It's an addiction no different from cocaine, heroin, vodka, bingo, Ben & Jerry's, Law & Order streamed on Netflix, or MySpace.

Wait, I meant Facebook. Nobody uses MySpace anymore, so that can't be addictive.

Right. Where was I?

These videos are so addictive that they are cracking the very foundation of human civilization. The endless barrage of these tiny films erodes the circuitry in our prefrontal cortex that normally enable us to focus for long periods of time and compose Petrarchan sonnets to our loved ones. These videos evade the true complexity of life. They provide us with easy resolutions. They flatter us, rather than forcing us to ask tough questions about ourselves or our political system. We become zombies as the reward centers of the brain explode like fireworks, leaving us helpless victims for mind-controlling masters. Is it any wonder that the rise of these videos to global domination correlates perfectly with the rise of Kim Kardashian? What else could possible account for this coincidence?

Therefore we must take immediate steps to ban TED talks.

I blame the liberal media. Laughing

You can't, it's back to pictures like when you were 14.

(A proxy server will do the trick.)
