I am travelling to Kathmandu, Nepal this summer vacation and the flight I am taking has me transferring planes in Chengdu, China. I will arrive in Chengdu at 12:00am (midnight) and leave again at 8am. I have heard that the Chengdu airport does not stay open 24 hours but I have been unable to verify this. Does anyone have any experience in this situation? Will I be allowed to stay in the airport? If I have to leave the airport will I need a visa or will they issue me one of those temporary transit visa - like they do in Shanghai. All my flights are with Air China but when I called them they couldn't tell me anything. I don't really want to pay money to get a Chinese visa just for a few hours.
