| Anybody with experience travelling in Thailand at the height of the rainy season? I will be in Phuket during the first week of September, and I'm a little unsure whether the boats will be going to the Phi Phi islands regularly during that time ( which is the main reason I'm going in the first place). |

Rainy season means you get an hour of rain later in the day every day.
It does not mean days on end of torrential downpours.
Boats will run, the sun will shine and the beach parties will happen.

I agree with what Ttompatz said.
I have seen storms that drop more rain than I have ever seen in my life, but it is usually lasting only a relatively short period of time. The storms have a powerful beauty all of their own and are worth seeing. Also interesting to see how the Thais deal with the storms and incorporate them into their daily life.
Also, once the rainy season establishes a pattern, it seems to follow it the same way over many days. For example, last year it seemed like it would rain for about an hour every afternoon starting around 2:30-3:00pm. Year before it seems like it only rained at night, year before that, almost always in the morning around dawn. Due to this, you can start to loosely plan around (I started to take afternoon naps) it and sill really enjoy yourself. |
