While I'm not a fan of the whole Gangnam Style phenomenon I can certainly respect Psy's style Laughing

Smoking laws in Canada are bull $s-it anyways.

Furthermore when Psy took off his shirt at a concert in Seoul last month it showed a rebellious side that I love to see in an artist. Yeah he's a chubby mofo, but he still didn't give a bleep and went shirtless in a still somewhat conservative culture.

He's a cool dude in my book and making bank too.

A handful of places in Montreal takes smoking in an undesignated place very seriously. In Ontario? Not so much.

I'll go so far to say he's clever in how he markets himself, having spent time at a music college in the states (and realizing he can't compete in conventional terms with the younger/slimmer K-poppers).

Would he be openly'rebellious' if it didn't result in bank?- highly dubious.

In other words, in my book this is the dude in college who read about Buddhism and grew his hair to get chicks.

He already made his money and achieved global zietgeist status.

Then he pulls this stunt live on Korean tv to the horror of many here. I loved it.

He was like "I don't give a @%@, I'm rich and famous biatch!" Laughing

We need more of this out of Korean celebrities. Music in many ways need to be a giant f-you to the establishment.

Koreans don't swear in their songs nor do they engage in sensitive topics. For the most part, Korean celebrities suck. They're corporate pansies with no backbone.

Sure they do, a few even have had their videos banned from TV for their swearing and lyrics. Drunken Tiger is the most famous example. However most of the ones constantly played on TV don't.

What doesn't he advertise? All with the same goddam song, no less.

So far, I've seen him advertising:
1. "Oppa U+ Style!"
2. "Condition Style!"
3. "Ramen Style!"
4. "LG Refrigerator Style!"

Glad that he took off his shirt. It should be acceptable to do that in Korea.

A bit unrelated but I remember going to a Queens of the Stone Age gig back home in the UK, and there was some dude smoking in the crowd who got caught (obviously) and kicked out. Later when QOTSA came back on for the encore, Josh Homme lit up himself and said something like 'I don't think they'll be kicking me out'. Cool

He still has the number 1 song on itunes.

If six months ago, someone were to say that a Korean would close the American Music Awards and sing completely in Korean, I'd have said you were nuts. But then here he is holding his own dancing with MC Hammer:
