This is a really stupid question, but when you're flying home how does customs know if you've bought something in Korea or if you brought it with you from home?

I just received new Ray-Bans from the States. US$220.00 including shipping by i-parcel. No taxes, no duties. Smile

Is there any update on the amount allowed for a package that is a gift?

my parents are sending me a package and have to fill out a customs slip with the values of everything down to the ranch dressing. Are you saying you only pay duty on individual items worth over 200$? As a total package I am going to be well over the 200$ mark.

Anything more than 150,000 won in value must pay duty. That does not include the shipping costs. So, you report what you think it's worth if it's less than that amount. Maybe the duty free allowance has risen with FTA? Not sure. Doubt it.

There is some flawed information in this thread.

Items shipped to Korea from the US are free from customs charges as long as the value is less than 200 dollars, thanks to the KORUS FTA.

Items shipped to Korea from any other nation are free from customs charges as long as the value is less than 100 dollars.
