Amendment 64 Passes: Colorado Legalizes Marijuana For Recreational Use

The Rocky Mountain High just got a whole lot higher. On Tuesday night, Amendment 64 -- the measure seeking the legalization of marijuana for recreational use by adults -- was passed by Colorado voters, making Colorado the first state to end marijuana prohibition in the United States.

The realization that Romney/Obama had been reelected was a pretty big letdown today. But this cheered me up, as did marriage rights in Maine/Maryland.

This was heartening.

Now that the abortion issue has stimulated women to break even more for the Democrats and Maine/Maryland have finally brought gay marriage rights into play by majority vote rather than judicial decision, the liberal social agenda's next (???) big issue is the end of weed prohibition.

It will be very interesting to see how the Administration handles this one.

I'll bet by 2020 weed is legal and taxed.

I'll bet your divinely anointed leader Obama will kill it and impose federal marijuana prohibition on that state, regardless of the decision by the electorate. Count on it.

Truly hoping there is a little stoner left in him and he leaves Colorado and Washington alone. This was the most promising decision of the day.

The harassment and closure of Californian pot dispensaries had nothing to do with glorious leader. Sure it was people under his command doing it, but it's physically impossible for Obama to do something Ya-ta doesn't like, so Obama couldn't have been responsible in any way.

Oh yeah, I forgot.

But seriously, Obama is 110% Wall Street, all the way. If you think he's going to let some upstart state legalize pot and threaten the trillion dollar global narcotics trade that the CIA and others control (and launder all the money through the same banks that financed his campaign), think again. It'll be jack boots and SWAT teams, and federal pens filled to the brim with evil weed smokers. This is what it really means to be trendy and liberal.

An Obama, unconstrained by the need to be re-elected, and his fear of the Republicans calling him soft on drugs, might find a way to have a new policy.

On the other hand, he is probably so pro-education, he may not let up. We will see.

This is what I'm hoping.

But he's really dissapointed me on this issue on the past so I'm sceptical.

Federal law trumps state law under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution
(not that Visitorq would know anything about that). So any state laws that "legalize" marijuana are automatically invalid.

While they may not be the ultimate authority, they certainly aren't invalid...perhaps a nice step in the right direction...yes?

The cool thing about having three branches of government is that each is a check on the other. The Executive is fully capable of choosing what laws to enforce and what laws not to enforce. If he wanted, Obama could pardon every person (Federally) convicted of marijuana possession in the country. And yet, Obama has chosen to viciously and hypocritically enforce Federal marijuana prohibition, despite the will of the People.

Yep. And for the first couple yeras, the Obama administration didn't do anything, but then it went all out in closing down the dispensaries in CA. Still not sure why there was such a drastic shift.

The police, prison guard and private prison lobby worked aggressively to achieve that.
