Maybe Obama will reveal he's a communist, light up a blunt, and be like "smoke weed everyday"

And yet, Obama has chosen to viciously and hypocritically enforce Federal marijuana prohibition, despite the will of the People.

The police, prison guard and private prison lobby worked aggressively to achieve that.

So Obama's values have been bent to the will of the all-powerful and ubiquitous "prison lobby". I'm sure he'll fare better against the tobacco, oil, mining, defense, Israel, agribusiness, tech, pharma and financial lobbies. Just because the... "prison lobby" broke Obama doesn't mean those other, larger and more powerful lobbies will have the same effect!

Is it ok to smoke this dubbage before driving a car? Would there be new tests administered by the police to check for certain amounts of THC in your system?

I'll bet your divinely anointed leader Obama will kill it and impose federal marijuana prohibition on that state, regardless of the decision by the electorate. Count on it.

The harassment and closure of Californian pot dispensaries had nothing to do with glorious leader. Sure it was people under his command doing it, but it's physically impossible for Obama to do something Ya-ta doesn't like, so Obama couldn't have been responsible in any way.

Federal law trumps state law under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution
(not that Visitorq would know anything about that). So any state laws that "legalize" marijuana are automatically invalid.

That is misleadingly incomplete.

The Federal government is limited to enumerated powers. The Feds must first act according to an enumerated power, most recently that has usually been the Commerce Clause, in order to pass any legislation affecting the States whatsoever.

Federal regulation of marijuana justifies itself on a much expanded and abused definition of the Commerce Clause (thanks liberal bench). See Gonzales v. Raich 545 U.S. 1 (2005).

Ghostrider, please review:

Quote:
The United States has a federal structure, with power divided between the states and the federal government. The state governments can act in any sphere not prohibited to them (10th Amendment, U.S. Constitution) but the federal government can pass laws only in areas specifically delegated to it. The state governments have general police power. The federal government does not have general police power and is a government body of limited, enumerated powers granted by the Constitution. Consequently, a substantial amount of U.S. federal law regulating numerous areas, including economic legislation and criminal law, are legally premised on an exercise of the Commerce Clause. The Commerce Clause, along with the Fourteenth Amendment and the spending power, allows Congress to do things that affect states.

The cool thing about having three branches of government is that each is a check on the other. The Executive is fully capable of choosing what laws to enforce and what laws not to enforce. If he wanted, Obama could pardon every person (Federally) convicted of marijuana possession in the country. And yet, Obama has chosen to viciously and hypocritically enforce Federal marijuana prohibition, despite the will of the People.

Yep. And for the first couple yeras, the Obama administration didn't do anything, but then it went all out in closing down the dispensaries in CA. Still not sure why there was such a drastic shift.

I know what you mean.

Along the same lines, I always wondered why Obama went all in in Afghanistan and why he went all in on deportation.

It could be that he felt he had to establish his cred before changing policy. (Only Nixon could go to China.)

OTOH, it could be that he is a reformed stoner, and like a reformed anything, a fanatic. I have my fingers crossed it ain't so.

All along he has said 'the public' has to make him do something, exactly like FDR did. (FDR welcomed some pressure group into the Oval office and listened to them rant and rave about making some change. In the end, he said, "I agree with you. Now, go out there and make me do it.") What he was saying was that there has to be public pressure for a president to respond to.

The mistake everyone has made lately is to sit back and expect the president to do all the work. That ain't the way the system works. All politicians are craven. They want job security. (We peons don't deserve it, but they do.) Note how a few thousand OWS forced the idea of economic equality onto the public stage. It it hadn't been for them and their 1% vs. the 99%, Romney's 47% would not have made any impact.

An engaged and active public forces changes.
