|

I have been in a few internet debates this and other forums and for the most part I have done so in a playful manner. Yeah, I might of riled a few folks, but I never tried to be too personal. It's just the internet, right?
But then I received this disturbing personal message from the poster gakr2519770 the other day:

Can you please remove yourself from the gene pool? Preferably in the most painful and agonizing way possible? Retard Die painfully okay? Prefearbly by getting crushed to death in a garbage compactor, or by getting your cranium smashed in. STFU s_ithead, before you get your head kicked in. |
Wow! Some people really need to chill.
What's even stranger is that this poster in question hasn't made any posts on Daveseslcafe that I know of. So is this a troll who made an account solely to threaten people via personal messages?
Just curious, has anyone else here received threats similar to this? |

Several people (including me) have received these kinds of love letters. |

The usernames are dead give aways. These are not the kinds of usernames someone would usually choose. It appears to either be coordinated trolling or a bot of some kind exploiting phpbb security holes in very old software that the powers that be refuse to update.
If you google some of the messages you'll find out that the exact same messages have been posted (sometimes by the same user name) on hundreds, maybe thousands of forums, around the internet.
There should be a much lesser chance of it happening here since all accounts are supposed to be screened by the mods before being approved, as they make us reply with an email indicating why we want to use the forum. Since we know at least 2-3 accounts which have done this, perhaps a mod would like to share how it was that this particular account passed the vetting process. Given how wide-spread this is, I can't really imagine someone doing it all by hand. |

It's just a bot. No reason to worry about it. |
