I know there are a lot of complaints about CDI, but I'm wondering about the branch in Ansan, if anyone has worked there. |

Can you clarify, "transitions"? I'm new to Korea and to teaching English. |

It's an inside joke. If you end up taking the contract you'll understand. |

"Complaints" is an understatement. A class action lawsuit was filed against them for violation of the Korean Labor Standards Act. |

Did the lawsuit accomplish anything? People keep bringing up this lawsuit but we never hear the results of it. |

I don't know about that particular branch but I think ChungDahm is a decent company to work for, and I say this as a 6 year veteran, not a newbie blinded by ignorance.
Most of the people on this site who warn people about working for CDI have no experience of the actual company. At my branch, the vast majority of teachers re-sign year on year. |

Do you know which CDI locations are branches and which are franchises? |

No it isn't information that I am privy to I am afraid. From what I gather, most of the company owned branches are in Seoul and Gyeonggi. |

Ansan is definitely a branch. Most of the CDIs around Seoul are branches now; HQ bought back the franchises a few years ago.
I haven't worked at Ansan, but I've worked at a small franchise as well as the main branch. CDI isn't perfect, but it's a good place for a newbie to start. They put you through a training program and the classes are all pretty structured. Not a lot of creativity is required. And you get paid on time.
Cons: three hour classes, may have to work weekends (although I think many branches now close on Sundays), no holidays (you can take a ten day vacation - I think - after you work there a year; you get new year's and chusok and christmas off), no room to do anything outside of the set curriculum (although some might consider that a plus).
I left CDI because I got fed up in the end, but this is mostly because I took on other responsibilities. My advice to anyone working at CDI is to just say no to any "promotions" they offer you. It's always way more work with not enough pay to make up for it. But being just a teacher at CDI is no worse than being a teacher at most big name hakwons. |
