I've discussed my film The View from Here in a previous thread.
It's now available online for free and I'd like you to see it.
I'll be answering your questions here.
You can find the film here:

The movie was written last winter and rehearsals have been a year long process.
I shot the movie in Incheon this past summer. We had five full shooting days, on a budget of around 4mil won.
If you like the film (and many of you most certainly won't) please:
- Host a screening for friends.
- Join our facebook event and tell us what you thought of our film.

I watched your movie last night and enjoyed it. Well done, especially on just 4million Won! I really liked how you could see the characters were trying to find a reason to be happy together but it was clear that they were probably never going to be.
A couple of (hopefully constructive) criticisms I had about it were I felt the camera was a bit too shaky especially in the bedroom scene at the beginning, and at times the focus kept changing a bit too much, and I think at times the subject that you wanted to keep the focus on was a little fuzzy.
I also found the dinner scene a little difficult to follow because although the Korean dialogue was subtitled, you often couldn't actually see who was talking so it wasn't that easy to know who was saying what, and at times the Koreans were talking so I was trying to read the subtitles, but then Ray and Isabel were talking at the same time - which in real life is certainly what happens, but as a viewer wasn't so easy to follow.
Anyway, that's just my two cents. I have absolutely no experience in film making, so you can take my comments as coming from a complete lay person as far as film making goes.
Hope you're able to raise enough money from your funding. |

@artyom: Your criticisms are right on the money. In fact, those are things that are typically smoothed over with more money: better gear, steadicams, etc. The best we can do is use our frugality as a creative asset, and to that extent I think we have.
The dinner scene is a tricky one and the confusion is one I've had to mull over. In the end, I think it works, it's flawed, but so is life. And that for me is what I'm tryign to capture.
Thanks for watching. And for commenting. |

Well done!
I found the characters convincing & the dialogue rang true. I like the way the story just emerges with minimal exposition, & it held my interest. The drunken dinner was suitably chaotic. The mudflats, nicely foreshadowed, were a fresh & thematically apt element. Considering the budget, the technical quality is impressive.
Tons of promise. Best luck with your future endeavors. |

The dinner scene was the best in the film, imo. This will sound harsher than I mean it to, but that was the only scene in which the distractions of the movie faded away. Great tension there, watching each of the five being uncomfortable and handling it in their own way. I've been in the same situation with those five people many times. Captured and presented wonderfully.
Good job and good luck! |
