OP= Original Poster. I like your videos, I've been watching them for awhile. Does Busan feel like a big city in the US? Is it comparable to any US cities you can think of, in feel, or size?

Oh, thanks! And thank you about the videos.

Busan definitely has a "larger city" feel. There are spots in Busan that hint at big, but nothing like NYC, Chicago, etc. I may put it in the category of a Miami or LA because of the way it's laid out. That said, with 3.6 million people it is populous. It's homogeneous with only clusters of larger buildings so there isn't an "epic" feel like NY/Chicago with skyscrapers and cultural diversity.
I like it though because it has mountains and beaches. None of that really in NYC or Chicago. It's my home for a while.

1 Year in Korea: Highlights and Bloopers video.

I have all this video from my first year here and as I was going through it one day I realized there were some funny random bits in some of them. I thought it would be entertaining to put them together in a short vid.

When it comes to getting any job, the interview is likely the most important part of the entire process. It's no different with getting into Korea to teach English. I believe there are universal tips for a good interview, and then some specific ones for getting a job teaching in Korea. The following video is my take on the 6 best tips I could give to really nail the interview.

That simply is not award-worthy teaching. It was a little painful to watch the whole thing. The material is several grade levels below the students' apparent age. The boys seem bored. There is no attempt to engage them in anything individual or creative. The powerpoint game is lame. Nothing new was taught.

I'm sure that teacher is sincere & likable, but is that really the best that Busan schools can come up with?

I agree. They must've rehearsed about 10 times. These classes are dog and pony shows to impress the higher ups. Serves no purpose what so ever.

The folks at the POE should make unannounced visits to evaluate.

Lol, it reminded me of the scene in Life of Brian when he talks to the crowd outside his house.
'You've got to learn to think for yourselves, you're all individuals'
'Yes, we are all individuals.'

I agree with what Schwa says too, there doesn't seem to be any language presented they don't already know. And there was no real context established. Teacher talking time was way too much but I suppose that's the problem with having this kind of show lesson in a competition. In real teaching the students should be doing most of the work but that wouldn't make the teacher look particularly dynamic on a video. The real question is how many of the students learned something new and were able to practice and produce it? Did Bum Suk in the back row , who wasn't chosen to perform the dialogue in front of the class, understand all the vocabulary and by the end of the lesson was he better able to order things in English in a restaurant? Judging by what I saw in the video the teacher would not be able to answer these questions.
