South Korea will need to pull their finger out next year. Uzbekistan beating Iran tonight has left things real tight at the top. Korea need 8 points from their last 4 games to be truly confident of qualifying IMHO.

They could have it tough indeed.

However, 2 of their next 4 matches are against Lebanon and Qatar. They do play Uzbekistan and Iran on the "road" and this will make it tougher.

This squad of Taeguk Warriors does not inspire as much confidence as before. They seem like a team in transition with the loss of Park Ji Sung in the midfield and some decent defenders.

Still, they have their qualification in their own hands for now.

You're reading those fixtures the North American way mate. Uzbekistan and Iran will travel to Korea which is a big bonus. Downside to that is that South Korea don't have a great record in Lebanon so playing their might be a banana skin.

Oups!

Thanks for the heads up. Then the road to WC 2014 got a bit easier for Korea.

Why would you want to do that unless it is with Korean friends whom you know will not mind the god natured sports jokes?

Yeah I am a sports fan and bragging rights are a huge part of sports as long as its in good fun and as long as you can also take it when you end up on the losing side! Laughing

Why?

@andrewchon, good result for Oz! You think you guys will qualify? When you were 1 down to Iraq it looked like it might be a struggle!

South Korea has qualified for the World Cup

The only bad news is that they finished second behind Iran which means they are more likely to be drafted into a difficult group.

Doesn't work that way for the Asian teams. It's random, Asia, North America, and Oceania are numbered and placed in their own pot and drawn (four pots btw).

you realize if it wasn't for Uzbekistan scoring an own goal in that game here in Seoul, Korea would now be in the 3rd place playoff with the odds highly stacked against them to make it (oh and don't forget sneaking the point out in Lebanon in the 97th minute and the winner against Oman in the 89th)

This team has been absolutely awful in qualifying against some true minnows
