Don't believe that some of the expat bloggers ignore big topics because of their positions? Why hasn't a certain blogger who works for the Seoul city government weighed in on the Costco issue? He never has a problem commenting on any other issue in this forum.

I know a lot of the heavy hitting bloggers regularly cover E2 visa regulations and the like. But you're right, I'm surprised the Costco issue hasn't seen much face time in the english-language blogosphere. Heck, Dave's probably has the best discussion I've seen. Surprised the food bloggers aren't all over this. Seems like some of them gungho over promoting their 'tours' (which is fine).

Good points. At least you see what many others see- that some of those bloggers too often have agendas or limits and that they don't really speak for anyone except themselves.

As for this site, sometimes issues are better covered here than other places, especially those threads that are critical of restaurants, bars, or tourist attractions. You get the "ugly truth" about some things instead of sugarcoated nonsense that leads you to waste your money and time.

I think a CNN ireport would be a good plan on the Costco issue.

So is SP the only game in town for expat podcasts in Korea? As an aside I'm surprised the EV Boyz were never interviewed (anyone know if they're still around?)

None of them are "allowed" to cover the issue. Their handlers have spoken.

Which bloggers are these? Just curious... I've heard others argue that most of these high-profile expat bloggers are bought and sold by the govt,

Some of them will post on their blogs about meetings they have with Korean government officials. If they don't then ask questions. Who employs them? Who butters their bread? Who openly talks about "promoting tourism" or 'promoting Korean food" or "promoting K-pop"? Since when is any of that the responsibility of an expat blogger, unless they work for the Korean government?

As for the gov't buying-off podcasters. Haha.. that's a funny one.

Maybe, but you'd be surprised how cheaply some of these bloggers and well-known expats can purchased. Some of them will give a restaurant 5 stars just for comping their peanut butter and jelly sandwich. One top blogger just recommended that everyone should buy a 35,000 won membership to a Lotte-Costco ripoff store because of some crackers and cookies that you can find anywhere. Who got comped on that one?

Birds of a feather.

Every now and then I stop by to be entertained by the conspiracy theories cooked up. This is one of the funniest and most pathetic ones. You seriously need to make some friends and get out more often. Maybe date a girl.

Pretty sure that's not allowed per the TOS.

Do you think that no one pays attention? Your food blogger pals have lost all credibility by promoting certain crappy restaurants and bars. Anyone who's been here for more than a few years has been burned by one of your "recommendations." As for posting about working for the government, well just read the blogs. It's all there. Many big expat bloggers crow about who they've met and how they work for tourism bureaus and how they get into events as 'special guests." How does that work? Some openly promote the Korean music industry. Read their blogs.

You mean these guys?

When the Taco Bell opened in Itaewon the manager told some of us waiting in line that the video made a big impact on Taco Bell executives. It definitely swayed them towards opening stores in Korea.

Yeah. As far as I know the Taco Bell video was their more recent one (they did Kickin' it in Geumcheon, AE I Love You, and Taco Bell- any others?), so I wonder if some/all of the members left the country. They used to do concerts in Itaewon, etc, but haven't heard a peep from them in a few years.

I'll be forever indebted to them for getting TB back on the peninsula.
