We need oil for other things and we have global warming. The world consumption of oil is immoral. Unfortunately the USA is a massive contributer to the consumption.

That's too much. We do need to pay ahead for the externalities. A carbon tax would be wise.

Instead of dumping a carbon tax on a nation that lives in sub and exurbs take a few billion from the wars and such and do stuff like this:

If you don't tax carbon, in addition to giving a free ride to externalities, alternative energy cannot compete.

I'm willing to remove the corporate tax to accommodate a carbon tax of equivalent size.
