Seoul area and points south. How much snow depends on the temperature turnover during the day, but 3-5 inches is the general call right now. Get some groceries. |

Over here, we've had snow falls twice already. As for the groceries, these fastfood guys on scooters are fearless. I tell you, they are the unsung heroes of this world. |

Snow day! Snow day! Snow day! Oh, wait, we're not in Canada, which is good since it's not nearly as cold and snowy here, but bad because the anticipation of a snow day was always so exciting. |

USFK has already canceled school tomorrow for the kids on base.
Its either going to be one of two things 1) a few flakes and thats it 2) a 10 inch snowfall that paralyzes the city like a couple of years ago, then they predicted that 2-4" and we got almost a foot.
doesn't bother me, I'm done for the semester, I can sit in a coffee shop do my grades and watch the fun |

The Korea Meteorological Administration said up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) of snow will pile up nationwide today, starting along the west coast and hitting Seoul this morning. The forecast calls for up to 10 centimeters of snow in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong and the northern part of North Gyeongsang all day today. |
|
I don't understand. 5.9" or 10" is not a lot of snow. Why all the panic? |

I consider 10 cm is a bit of snow for one snowfall, and I'm Canadian. However, it would not stop me from going to work. It would be considered a normal day. Koreans and Americans, on the other hand..... |

Not sure if panic is the right word but 5/10cm of snow in Korea/Seoul causes a lot more standstill and disruption here than 5/10cm of snow would in most other countries or areas that has such downfalls.
I think it may be related to the fact that Korea historically hasn't had huge amounts of snow fall. The authorities aren't prepared for (or cant be) and their well oiled machine here that moves at 100km an hour is disrupted, halted
Namely - Public Transportation, traffic, people on the move , etc
Supposed to start coming down heavy in the next couple of hours in Seoul..

If this was in the UK, the whole damn country would grind to a halt. At least life carries on like normal here, albeit a bit slower. Wouldn't mind a day off work though |

Does Korea not have any road gritting trucks?
Would have made sense to put some grit down before the snow fell. |

I love the snow, but I hate the aftermath because a lot of times the snow just stays on the sidewalks and turns into a sheet of ice until February. |
