Nothing is permanent is it?
Blogs come and go, their audience changes...no big deal.
You can choose to visit other blogs without taking shots at zen's blog right?
All is well. |
If you're talking about me then understand I wasn't blaming any single individual. I was talking about an overall lack of ethics and disclosure among expat bloggers, and that does include some bigger names. It's why they've lost credibility in the eyes of many. It does matter because they are too often held up as spokepeople for the expat community by the Korean media and some foreign media. They speak only for themselves but too often look for the cameras so they can promote themselves and whatever else they may happen to be pushing at this time: tourism, K-pop, kimchi, whatever.
I suspect that you and I (PatrickGHBusan) agree, on this thread, and we're just making points about different aspects of the blogging industry. There are some good bloggers who do maintain their credibility and help others with information. Ansan Answers is a perfect example. Qiranger discloses the Korean government agencies that assist his blog. That's a step others should take, too.
As for zenkimchi's attitude toward teachers, well, it shouldn't come as any surprise. |

Let me be clear: for me blogs are like commentary from anyone else.
They are a passing entertainment, light reading, nothing more substantial than that.
So in truth, I do not care about who runs them or about their ethics or positions. Especially not when it is a glorified food travelogue. The usefulness of zen's blog has been in checking out possible places to eat and getting a preview. The rest of what he says has the same worth as what the person next to him would say, which is fine. |

Wasted almost 2 hours listening to your podcast last night, really nothing entertaining or informative, just 3/4 people around a microphone yammering about stuff heck anybody can do it. why people complain about it or blogs is beyond me, they are just opinions and you what opinions are like
i will say your ripping of people who post here was really inappropriate but hey i think fix noise does that too on a whole other level
dont even get me going on your drivel on fbi checks, now that was some serious misinformation, hope nobody relies on that to get it done |

That is what I mean: blogs are just online personal op pages. Take what you see there as such: a person's opinion (informed or uninformed in some cases).
Why anyone would rely on a food blogger for advice on how to get their work visa process is beyond me but hey.
The podcasts are just people shooting the sh. about whatever comes up. They make decent background noise while working on something else but should not be taken any more seriously than this! |

It doesn't really matter what they are for you, if the Korean government is using these people as a sounding board or litmus test for their ideas. That goes beyond what your simple opinion of them is and to the fact that some are using them to represent people here, you're out of the country so that's fairly irrelevant to you. For those of us here, it isn't |

The Seoul Podcast rocks. Seoul Survivors rocked. Eatyourkimchi rocks.
No need to defend your podcast, Joe. |

I didn't think Survivors was all that great; got a lot better when it became Seoul Podcast. Not a big fan of Eatyourkimchi; pretty much just govt stooges as far as I can tell. |

I'd be really surprised if eatyourkimchi were gov't stooges. I really get the feeling that they're totally doing this on their own. I give those two a lot of credit: they know their audience, are constantly innovating and changing, and seem to work hard as hell.
Truth be told I can't watch their videos. But that's all right, I know they are not meant for me.
The Korean gov't doesn't like working with foreigners, they only do it if they can control everything. |

I know they used to be on their own, but I heard they are now officially paid for by the govt and working on their website full time. Could be wrong though. |

Of course they are. How else could they be here? they're married to each other not Koreans. There is no general expat living in Korea visa. Unless you'd been a teacher here and transferred to an F2 points. However, they stopped teaching and doing the blog full time before that became available. The only difference being, they're not upfront about it. 100% they've been given special visas to live here and do what they do (likely an E7) and the government is extremely unlikely to do that without having them on the payroll so they can control them. |

What does that entail? How have bloggers represented you in any way with the k-government? I think you over-estimate their reach and influence.
Do you have any concrete examples of bloggers being used to represent foreigners in Korea or how bloggers have affected things like policy towards foreigners?
I am curious to know. |

You know, I would not be surprised at all if you irritate a good percentage of the readership here.
Do you work for the Korean Government? |

I just assumed they were in Korea on tourist visas and collecting AdSense payments in a Canadian bank account. That's what I would do. Perfectly legal.
Even if they were being supported by the Korean government, why would they hide that fact? It's not like they would lose their fans. Their fans would be happy for them. |

Yes I run the bongo truck program. I was brainwashed years ago at Goje Do Re-education camp and forced to learn Korean. Since then I have been managing a fleet of bongo trucks that follow FTs around and kidnap them to bring them to the re-education camp on Goje.
We came up with a very clever plan as we disguised these bongo trucks as produce selling farmer trucks....we included loud speakers that broadcast what they are selling but this is really a subliminal message aimed at drawing unsuspecting foreigners near enough so the trucks crack team of adjoshi and adjumas can grab em and toss em under the produce.
You uncovered my entire operation. You will have to be re-educated. |
