I'm a musician/singer living in Budapest, Hungary right now, and though it's culturally awesome, the economic and political situation is making it more and more difficult to survive here. And so I'm contemplating returning to Korea, where I've completed five contracts over the last fifteen years (I left in 2010).
When I go back, I would prefer to live and work in Busan, or somewhere other than Seoul that could provide what I need. I'm looking for information about the arts, music and culture scene there, particularly in European, North Asian, and Balkan contexts. The music I play and sing incorporates different styles, from cabaret to balkan to gypsy, and I'm also experimenting these days with non-western traditional music (Turkish, Armenian, Azeri). I would also love to meet those who play traditional Korean music (particularly gayagum) who are interested in experimenting and collaborating.
When I return, I would like to connect with people from these communities, for musical collaboration, language exchange and general cultural enrichment. I'm also interested in English-language amateur theatre, and of course, Korean culture.
I would appreciate any leads on community groups, individuals, organizations, bands, websites, etc...that will help me research the possibilities.
Thanks in advance for your input!
