It's been covered before I know but has anybody any experience of this in the past few months?
Say, a person was coming to stay with me for any time up to the 90 day visa waiver date.
What would be the best best.
Take a gamble, no onward ticket and just book when leaving?
or
Book any kind of cheap flight out of Korea for appearances sake then claim a refund?
For the record I didn't land with an onward ticket or was asked for proof of one at anytime. |

A lot depends on where they are from, how many times they have been in Korea before, and where they are boarding at.
If your friend is American and they do not have a visa or onward passage AND they are boarding in the States and coming directly to Korea they will probably have problems at check-in in the states.
A cheap, disposable seat to anywhere will work.
A more expensive, refundable seat to anywhere will work (often the costs associated with the refund will be more than the loss of the disposable ticket.
A 3rd option is an open return ticket. It satisfies the requirements for onward passage and allows a flexible return date (90-days to 1 year). They, however, are not cheap tickets (mainly because you can fly anytime as long as there is a seat on the plane).
If they want to gamble that is fine but be prepared (enough available cash or a credit card) to buy a full fare return ticket if they run into problems at the airport.

She's not coming from the States but Thailand ( Not a Thai bride before anyone asks  ) .
I think the cheap disposable seat option will have to do.
