This looks like a neat site for reading Korean folk tales in English and writing your own. Check it out:

Thanks....
Let's get a thread going of fun sites like this one. If we can't amuse and teach the students with them at least we will be entertained. ^^
Cheers,

What a great idea!
It also gives us a better understanding of Korean culture.
We have lots in our culture that actually enter our vocabulary at times (example would be when someone cries "wolf").
I hope other people know more sites. That one is great reading! |

"Homepage of Korean Folktales
Welcome to a homepage of selected folktales from Korea. These stories may be used as resource materials to learn more about Korean culture reflected in old stories and enhance multicultural understanding. Also included is a sketchy introduction to some traditional Korean beliefs and cultural traits, and attitudes formed by these. It may be of particular interest to those who are guiding students born and raised during their formative years in Korea. I plan to add as many stories as I can."

Hey!!! That's the same story that is in the popular ESL book 'Basic Reading Power 1' that you can find in just about every bookstore with a half-decent ESL selection. It's been around for some time, and in that book the story is called 'The Strongest Person' and the protagonists are JAPANESE mice.
So now I'm suspicious- is the Mole Family a genuine Korean folktale or has somone cribbed a story from their old ESL textbook and is passing it off as one?!?! |

A lot of elementary schools have folk tale competitions in English for their kids---or at least it seems that way here. I wish I'd known of this page when people were asking me to suggest folk tales to them for their kids to practice.
I have a feeling that the mole story is a rip-off. It's a little strange anyway, huh? |
