|
|
Trying to call an old friend in Australia from here in Busan... what exactly do I dial?
The int'l calling code for Oz is 62... so if the number is +62 (0)3 8888-8888, what do I dial? 011-62-3-8888-8888? I get a ring-tone before I even enter the last number, so something fishy is happening.
I also tried just calling 62...... but that doesn't work either.
Help!!!!!!! |

Umm, i had a huge panic attack the day i arrived here. I was finally alone in my apartment, and i tried to call my parents, and i couldn't get the phone to work. Jesus, it was awful. But, according to the lonely planet, you have to ring a phone company number to dial outside Korea, or something like that. To dial your number would be:
001 (KR Telecom number - there are 2 other phone company's as well) 62 3 8888 8888
SO to ring home in NZ which would normally be: 0064 (nz country code) 7 (area code) 573 6978 (home number), IN KOREA you dial: 001 ( kr telecom) the country code minus the zeroes, and then the rest of the number. Give that a try. I hope i made sense. |

international dialing prefixes
001
002
both of these will get you out of the country, 002 is cheaper. |

Cheaper than 001 and 002 put together!
DIAL DOWN THE MIDDLE! With a slight detour to the seven.... |

Or even better head to Itaewon and buy a phone card. 14,000 won gets you over 2 hours. |

Or even even better: PC-to-Phone services like www.dialpad.com and www.iconnecthere.com. For those of us with high speed Internet, this is the way to go.
The sound quality's as good as if I call with a regular phone, and I only pay 4 cents a minute or something like that. I charge my account on-line in $10US increments with a credit card, and that lasts me for several months. Different countries have different rates, but most Western countries are pretty cheap. |

Try dialling 00700 or 00300 before the country code etc. You need to get an overseas carrier before you can get connected. There are a number of international carriers, but I have found these reasonably cheap and reliable. The internet phone is great too. I was using the Telstra service (until they ended the trial) because it was based in Oz, and there rates were even lower than everyone else. Also check that you have the updated Australian phone number. A couple of years ago they merged area codes and local codes to create more numbers and simpler system management.
Still crazy, still here (but going home soon) |

The code for Oz is 61 for sure. If you have been trying to dial 62 then your problems are only compounded.
Good call, missed it, and I used to live there. |

I'm bumping this because I'm wondering if people have any new advice. Are these numbers still current? Any idea what the going rate is these days? |
