The other possible motivations for Internet content development (like a blog) are:

-- ad revenue ('Talk to Me in Korean' has no ads)
-- fame ... (but the comments are apparently disabled, blocking any feedback/interaction)
-- future income by going commercial (??)

I can find no plausible explanation that the site has enacted which can rationalize accepting the burdens of time & expense that are entailed by taking responsibility for teaching the Korean language to anonymous netizens ("freeloaders") !

talktomeinkorean has a store peddling everything they think they could possibly get away with including their lessons in a bulk download for $12 per level. they also have a sister site harukorean.com with a $6 a month subscription for korean error correction. the store is prominently displayed on their homepage and harkorean.com is linked to and mentioned all over the place, not sure how you've missed the commercial aspect of it all.

As noted above, talktomeinkorean.com does have ads, look at the whole right side of the page - ad after ad. They even have a little link saying something like "Advertise with us".

... Anything like a translation that's paid work, I ask on lang-8.com and get answers right away ... or use my Korean friend/translator network. Here on Dave's, it just takes too long. Like, my post here:

Technically, all your entries on lang-8 are supposed to be your own writing, but you can sneak in a few questions, too.

I recommend http://lang-8.com/ to everybody. It really helped me, for one, to improve my writing a lot. It can help you, too, I'm sure of it!

So 설날 is here. I've noticed though that people in my city pronounce it 설랄 (Seollal instead of Seonal). Is there a reason for this or could it be a regional dialect (I'm in Jeollanamdo)?

pronounced: 설랄 (ㄴ -> ㄹ)

as for the question, "what does 설 mean?" ...

turns out that 설날 really came from 섣날 which was hard to pronounce so they changed that to 설날 . Here, 섣 means ... I don't know. I can only find on naver's dictionary that 섣달 means the twelfth month of the lunar year
