Contract is up March 1st, my co worker's contract is up June 1st. I'd like to take his spot. I'd be out of Korea for 3 months.

Would I need to have all the paperwork done again? Or can I just leave, and come back?

I've talked to my hagwon, and they recommend just extending my visa. Is this a good route?

Okay, I'll try to beat Ttompatz to it. What you want to do is get a D-10 visa. It's good for six months. When you get a new job you just transfer the D-10 back to an E-2. No new paperwork is required, although you will need to do a new health check.

One more, if I do extend, I know that I couldn't collect my pension from this past year. What If I decide to not come back in June, how could I get my pension then???

You can apply for your pension refund from your home country, but others have previously reported that the process takes many months.

Also, I think I've read here that theres a limit to how long you can leave Korea on a D10, maybe 3 months? About the same as your timeline. You should check on that.

If you are outside of Korea for more than 90 days, you have to apply for all the documents again.

Might be easier to just get another job.

I would be out of Korea exactly 90 days. I could probably come a little earlier.

I get the D-10 before I leave in March. Then when I get back, I get an e-2? My hagwon is great, but communication is bad as of late.. can anyone confirm this can be done?

Update: I'm probably going in on Tuesday and letting my boss know that I'll be coming back June 1st to start another contract.

Now, I have another question.

I've been talking with my head teacher, and she recommends getting a visa extention(E-2) before I leave in early March. Is this the best route? It would run out next March, forcing me to renew to finish the rest of my contract(June).

Would telling her that getting a D-10 before I leave, and doing the E-2 when I get back in late May be better? I just want to make sure this gets done right. Visa issues here are tough to understand. Throw in a hagwon boss and things can get really cloudy...
