I just read this on one of the recruiter websites.
Information on the National Criminal Background Check
Update: As of January 1st, 2012 criminal background checks must be no more than 3 months old when submitted.
Is this information correct? |

Interesting! Can we get the recruiters page link.
Actually thinking about it, A few years ago 3 months was the standard. Yet immigration and schools where running into problems with it. So they changed it to six months.
Maybe the recruiter is operating under old information.
Still this is supposition on my part. |

6 months from date of issue to the time it lands on the desk at immigration.
6 months + 1 day and you get to do it again.

From the link:

Update: As of April 10th, some consulates request another photocopy of the background check. Be sure to keep a photocopy of the background check. |
First off that information is over a year old. It is 2013 now. I sometimes make that confusion. In that year, I have heard nothing to contradict the 6 month rule. So that is likely wrong information or it was changed quickly. Another possibility is that the recruiter is trying to create a safety buffer for them. They say three months, but if things take a little longer. Surprise, they have an extra couple of months to try and wrap things up.
As to consulates requesting a copy of the background check? Never really heard of that. I suspect most consulates if needed will photocopy themselves if they need to keep on record. Likely only with Canadian, because they have to verify through the consulate. |

Does this time frame apply to the medical check also? |

The medical check is done AFTER you arrive in Korea at an approved medical facility (usually govt. hospital) and before you get your ARC (part of the ARC application process).
You MUST (by law) have your ARC within 90 days of your arrival on your E2.
Medical exams done abroad are unnecessary and will be ignored.
