Not going to judge them for that, but this is just sick:

"In its 2010 report, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said Korean men were the prime clients of child prostitutes in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam."

From the above link:
"the Korean government has yet to crack down on offenders or attempted to curb the trend."

From an article about Korean women working in Australian brothels:

"South Korea is understood to be pursuing reprisals against its nationals who willingly participate in the industry here, including a year in jail and compulsory return to Korea. More serious offences, including sex trafficking, can lead to 10 years in jail.

"South Korea sent its special ambassador for overseas Koreans, Moon Hayong, to Canberra in December to meet senior foreign affairs officials and federal police. There have been reports of tensions between the two countries over the sex issue."

It's interesting that the Korean government does not care if Korean men pay for sex in foreign countries, but Korean women who go abroad to work in the sex trade can face prosecution when they return.

In a low-fertility country like Korea, your women going abroad to become prostitutes is a much more pressing issue than your men screwing around on vacation. If you think about the matter from the perspective of rational national interest (instead of through the lens of modern western culture) it makes perfect sense.

If adults choose to involve themselves in the sex industry, so be it. Child prostitutes though..

True. I do find it ironic..... One Canadian teacher molested children in Thailand so now all foreign teachers have to pass an HIV test. A UN report comes out stating that Korean men are the main customers of child prostitutes in Southeast Asia and the Korean government shows zero interest.

I find it more disturbing that the Thai government does not seem to care either.
As for visiting prostitutes that are adult, that is two adults doing business not my concern. I see absolutely nothing wrong with prostitution as long as they are adults, if fact i think it is probably healthier than viewing porn on line.

Child prostituion I think the death penalty for the pimps that run that business would be a good start.

The pimps that run the business are scum, but I think the Korean clients should be punished equally. After all, they are using their wealth to exploit the poorer nations and keep the industry going. Why is this not a major news story, when every single foreigner busted for smoking weed makes it onto MBC? Perhaps someone should suggest it to the networks..

The Korean govt. cares about it's image to developed countries, but not LDCs.

As far as the report goes, it could be argued that Korea is a relatively rich and populous country and as such makes it likely to be a source (similarly Japan).

I find strange the Korean prosecutions of Koreans that gambled overseas. Who got hurt?

Koreans 'cleaning up' gambling is seen as a good thing, and conservative countries will agree with that. Gambling is still illegal and frowned upon in conservative countries where the main/only religion is Islam.

Kiddy fiddling is best ignored so the government won't acknowledge a problem, highlighting a crackdown would be advertising the fact there is a problem with Korean perverts. Then Thailand would have to acknowledge that it doesn't protect its children (like we do in the west) and would likely lose a lot of tourism $$$$$$

Since when has it been considered a possibility to be prosecuted for a legal behavior in another country?

A Korean dude smoked marijuana in Amsterdam then blogged out it when he got back to Korea. He was busted for this even though he wasn't on Korean soil when he did this. Why? Korean laws are applicable to Korean citizens even when they are outside of the country.

Unless you're G-Dragon. Of course this could probably be said about any celebrity in any country.

And since when has that not been something to outright condemn?

Both Canada and the U.S. have prosecuted people who have engaged in pedophilia in South east Asia.

A high profile case was the Canadian who taught in Thailand who was arranging pedo tours.

There have been several Americans busted for this also. One scumbag wa from my hometown. they busted him, he had naked pictures of the children he had been raping.
