Hamburg is nice, but a top 5 city to live in? I don't think so. The winters there are BRUTALLY cold. |

That's what's so great about it. Hermit Kingdom! |
Indeed, I get a lot of stuff done here; work, gym time, other interests. Nobody bugs me or cares what I do here. Isolation does have its advantages! |
Yep. Isolation and anonymity = freedom.
Almost time to cut loose that facebook page. |

Canada - any city in Canada. It's the best country in the world. And B.C. is the "best place on earth".
That, and Canadians are loved all over the world. |

My Canuck friends tell me stories about -40 temperatures. That is insane. I would like to go to Canada though. Looks like a beautiful country, and Canadians seem like decent enough folk. |

As a tourist to Canada, I thought it was very pretty and much like home (New Zealand), however drivers in Canada are crazy lol. Just my opinion based on my observations/experience |

the best place ive lived was lucern/luzern, switzerland.
clean, reliable and cheap public transport, cheap accommodation, fashionable, good music scene, good sports scene, bars open almost constantly, healthy views of prostitution (alot of students would do it to subsidise school), you could buy hash in the stores, beautiful women, good quality beer on tap, beautiful scenery and most people could speak english (although i conversed in german usually), food wasnt too expensive if you knew where to shop, reasonable selection of foreign restaurants.
downside - people believing they belong to the police force (someone actually tried to run me down with a train once because i walked on the train tracks).
i cant think of anything else that would make me happy |

Switzerland is beautiful, the only downsides are (if you're used to living in Korea) is that Sundays are pretty dead and other costs of living are very, very expensive.
I had a couple of months in Geneva - an awesome place an it's close enough to Lyon to have a few cheaper night outs / weekends away. |

This matches my experiences there too. The scale of civic responsibility was awesome - hence the pristine state - but on the other hand people will shop each other to the police at the drop of a hat. Probably a great place to retire to but not so good if you're young and high spirited. As I was. The food is no great shakes either IMO. |

i dont remember it being very expensive.
my rent was 150 pounds a month. for that i got a shared apartment with another guy. we had 6 rooms between us and my room was big enough to fit about 6 double beds.
i got all my stuff free from placing adds in the newspaper (eg snowboard, bike furniture etc.). Food was about the same if not less than the uk if you shopped around (eg farmers market). i paid about 50 quid a month for my train pass to work everyday. i could also use that to get into the ski resorts half price.
beer wasnt expensive if you didnt buy guiness etc.
we shared a car in a car pool so it cost us about 5 quid a month if we needed a car.
i was being paid about 3,000,000 krw a month for 10 hours a week work (plus bonuses - eg id be given 100 quid a month parking bonus, even though i took the train...).
i saved alot without even trying.
relatively, id say it wasnt expensive. |
