Regardless of what one thought of her, these 'Thatcher is dead' street parties are disgraceful. |
Its basically a symptom of North-south resentment.
Thatcher was a typical southerner with a plummy accent and her nose in the air. She could not be more different than the average anti-intellectualist working class northerner. |
She was from the East Midlands and was the daughter of a shop keeper. The Tories could not have won without significant 'working-class' support, my grandad was a union man yet voted Thatcher.
The resentment comes from the fact that people blame her for destroying industry that was already dead. The old way was way too inefficient, for example we produce more steel in the UK now than we ever did in the seventies.
She wasn't perfect, but her Britain compared to the Britain of IMF bailouts, three day weeks and unions so powerful they brought down prime ministers it was far better. |

I always suspected her accent was fake. Part of the persona she built up. |

I think Death Parties are a little too much.
We never saw this when Reagan died. |

Yeah. And on such a wide scale too. People are unable to show a little respect and dignity? |
