Hi....what is this new talk about visa changes with foreigners married to Koreans? Are there visas changing from F2 to F6? Does this make any impact?

The new F-6 VISA is mainly for people from 'certain religions' who like to have more than one wife.

This new VISA (F-6) allows for one man to marry (up to) six wives.

But he can only live with (up to) two of them at a time.

I think this is because apt's in Korea are generally quite small.

I couldn't imagine living with 6 wives in a two bedroom house!

The big problem is - that once the man marries 1 Korean woman, he can bring in (up to) 5 more foreign women from other countries!!!!

This is crazy!

Is the F6 to accommodate foreign residents in Korea who follow polygamy?
That sounds like a social issue waiting to happen.

Korea being a developed country I thought there would be some allow against polygamy.

Unbelievable.

It's also unfair. I'm still on my old F-2-1, so I can only have two wives, and only one can count for tax purposes. I'm personally saving my second wife slot for a high powered lawyer or corporate climber, because ambitious, independent women with no interest in maternity are what I've been taught to find attractive.

Wikipedia calls F6 a "permeant resident" visa. Is it the best visa to go for if I plan to work in Korea for a long time?

Ugh.. the marriage thing sounds pretty hilarious. Not sure I'd buy that one. Laughing

My F-2-1 was changed to F-6 last year. They just do it when you renew your F-2-1. I heard it has more to do with allowing spousal rights in the event of a death or divorce. My google-fu is lazy today, so I suggest you simply look it up on the Korean Immigration website.

There is still an F-2 visa, but it is now for investors or something. Simple change in designation for us married folk, plus a few changes in "benefits."

I doubt I could afford one wife, let alone six. But bedtime would be fun.
