I'll be moving back to the US soon and since I have about 6 months left on my 2 year contract, I'll probably just buy it out. I asked a guy at KT Olleh if they can unlock it before I leave, and he said every iPhone since the iPhone 4S has no country lock. Does that sound right? Is there anything I need to do here to make it work in the US?

Nope. Nothing at all. Just put a TMobile sim card in, and you are good to go sir. Smile

Country lock is different from a phone lock. Try to insert a non-KT SIM card to see if it's unlocked. The guy might just pull one over you, or not have a clue what you asked for really.

That said, T-Mobile has different frequences than those used in Korea, by KT/SKT (1700 I think). I doubt you'll be able to use it on T-Mobile...
(just a guess, the iPhone might have a full spectrum radio, like the Verizon CDMA version has WCDMA radio and works abroad)

It will work on T-Mobile for sure. I purchase the sim card whenever I go back to the states. No problems at all.

FWIW, KT's primary roaming partner in the US is AT&T, which means technologically KT handsets are capable of tapping into AT&T infrastructure.

ATT yes, but T-mobile uses different frequences for 3G. Not everywhere in the states, but most places. The fact that it worked some place does not mean it will work in most US cities.

Google iPhone 1700 MHz

I wanted to use my EU GalaxyS3 in the US on T-Mo, because it is not as expensive as ATT, but was told it'll be a no-go most places Sad
